EXEL History

The EXEL brand was founded in 1960 in Europe by three chemists who had initially begun to manufacture electronic detonators for explosives. The company’s name, EXEL, is from the phrase “Explosive Electronics.” Composite products were introduced in 1970, and in 1993 EXEL launched its first floorball shafts. Soon the sport took off, and the gear along with it.

To this day, EXEL is known for its pioneering spirit that has led to innovations shaping the world of floorball as we know it.

Many Ice hockey players use floorball sticks and balls to practice their stick handling. Floorball can improve hockey skills and ensure a legacy of Canadian hockey players. Floorball’s effect on improving Swedish and Finnish goalie performance is especially evident, and some NHL goalies credit floorball for improving their agility and reaction time. Swedish goalie Henrik Lundqvist played floorball and ex-superstar NHLer Peter Forsberg is a strong advocate and played floorball growing up, like Teemu Selanne, Marian Gaborik and the Sedin twins

What is Floorball?

Floorball is a fast and exciting game that promotes end-to-end plays with quick transitions and fluid game play. The rules stress the importance of safety and sportsmanship and are designed to limit the chance of injury without decreasing the speed or skill of the game.

Floorball is a team sport where 2 teams of 5 players and a goaltender compete in 3 periods of 20 minutes. The objective is to put the ball in the opponent's goal using a stick shot. This sport can also be played 3 against 3 (in addition to a goaltender) on a small field equivalent to half of the large field. This game mode is used in particular by the youngest.

Equipment

Floorball sticks are engineered for superior stickhandling, ball control and shooting. They are lightweight, inexpensive, durable, and non-marking. A floorball stick should reach about two centimeters above the belly button of the player. The official ball is 72 mm in diameter, weighs 23 g and is made of hard plastic with 26 evenly distributed holes, like a whiffle ball. A floorball net is 160 cm wide by 115 cm high, like the size of a hockey net. Floorball players do not wear any protective equipment (only a t-shirt, shorts and athletic shoes are required). Players may wear protective eyewear, but it is not mandatory.
